Blood and Steel The Cor Chronicles #1

The Shining West free from the yoke of the Loszian Empire has long stood as a beacon of freedom guarding its people from the evils of the Loszians Auis is the largest of the Western Kingdoms ruled by its benificent ueen Erella High Priestess to Garod leader of the gods of lightThe son of a farmer in the bountiful kingdom Auis Cor Pelson had always been different Shortly after he was born came the horrific coughing a. Blood and Steel begins the story of Cor Pelson You see Cor is a Dahken a race of magical warriors long though dead by both the beneficent priests of the Shining West and the necromancers of the Loszian Empire Shortly after he was born Cor changed the coughing attacks came and his skin changed to the gray of a corpse He is different and there were those who took notice Cor comes to realize that there are those who would control the power in his blood Frightened and determined to protect those he loves Cor steals away from home He uickly finds that the world is not what he thought it was the world is not full of happy farmers in a bountiful kingdom living in peace and freedom It is in fact a cruel brutal place where blood flows readily and the ability to protect himself is paramount Those that would control the power in his blood follow him to the sea Cor must accept that he is different learn to unlock his strength and take revenge upon the Loszian necromancer who has wronged him The story is wonderful and engaging and the characters make sense for the setting The pace is fast which I consider this novel s strongest feature It grabs you right at Chapter 1 and takes you for a fast hard thrill ride The book and the author I think clearly lives for its action seuences and they re executed with wonderful detail You see everything as it occurs The main character probably would have lived a uiet life but everyone seems to have designs on him and it pushes him to take matters into his own hands Toward the end he meets a woman who epitomizes this Great Readin Everyone

Ttacks and his skin changed color to a gray reminiscent of the grave He is a Dahken a race the Loszian necromancers fear reviled by the Western priests and thought extinct by both As a child strangers entered his life even if only briefly and drove home that there are those that would bend him to their wills Frightened and determined to protect those he loves Cor steals away from home He finds that the world is not. There are some good concepts at work in Blood and Steel Gods working in limited fashion through their worshippers the occasional avatar the Dahken concept On the whole though the flaws outweigh the restThe writing is poor in most ways that matter Characters are one dimensional and never seem to actually grow as people throughout the book Everyone speaks with the same sort of idiom same word use same meter and structure The world as a whole is very poorly conceivedDescriptions of surrounds such as The stone shined dark purple with light reflected off of it are common Snow may be referred to as frozen precipitation You discover a character is fond of his horse not by the way he treats it his conversation observations of other characters No it s because the book says He had grown rather fond of the palomino and had long decided he would violently eviscerate anyone responsible for mistreating or harming her Somehow his regard for the horse hadn t rated a mention in the several weeks he d been riding her to that pointIf you can get this cheap I paid 130 then it isn t the worst thing you ll read I d stick with paying for better books though
