REVIEW ↠ eBook, ePUB or Kindle PDF ´ Lilian Peake

Shaun's laughter rang out just as Cara reached the door She couldn't help overhearing what he said to his auntYou're not implying that I'm attracted to Cara Hir It is one of those un pc vintages where the H can do no wrong and the h nothing right The H was un likeable and the h lacked every kind of sense It was a very frustrating read really The h an out of work history teacher applies as companion help to an eccentric old lady who surprise surprise has an arrogant tall dark nephew The stipulations for the job were horrendous and uite liable for a lawsuit in today s times She was made to cut her long hair was always to wear a baggy unattractive uniform and no makeup In other words a sexless slave who was to do the heartless and exacting old lady s bidding day and night with barely a break or respite This included pushing around the overweight lady around the hotel and the village in a heavy creaky wheelchair What joyIt was also a precondition that she should not have a bf or man in her life and neither think of one in the futureNow the h does have a boy friend that she has agreed to marry unofficially and she only takes the job so that they can have a nest egg for the future So of course she hides the fact and that is the basis of the whole imposter thingAllusions to this dishonesty and lies are brought up every second page and she keeps jumping guiltily whenever the H almost catches her calling her bf or dropping him a letter I found this very annoying and arbitrary How can anyone control an employee s private life to such an extent and why does she continue in a job where her employer and her nephew continually belittle and humiliate her The aunt treats her like a slave who deservesexpects no dignity but at the same time becomes so dependent on the h that she very cunningly drops hints that if the h continues in her employment without leave apparently she would make the h her heir And this is the second thing she never clarifies with the H when he accuses her repeatedly of wanting the same It was not as if she is destitute or is actively inveigling her way in to the old woman s affection and her bf does tell her to drop her job as it was not really worth it So she can only blame her own stupidity and spinelessness for most of her woesThe H a famous author is a creepy asshat of the first degree and I never warmed up to him He sees the way his aunt mistreats the h but never intervenes I saw no trace of a romance or love in their interactions She insults him a few times and before I could even think Bravo she would backpedal furiously apologise to him And this cycle is repeated many times He hardly shows any kindness to her and his few kisses and grabbings seem of a sexual offenseblackmail than anything else He has a gf or two and often boasts directly or indirectly about his women or his aunt does it for him All the H s other gestures mixed at best seemed too little too late So in the end when he says he fell in love with her right at the beginning it was as believable as a UFO landing at his castle And who lives at the local 3 star hotel when they have a castle of their own And that too with his AuntThe ending proved the h s tstl ness beyond any doubt Her treatment of her off book bffianc is abominable In fact she didn t treat him at all She just went AWOL from his lifeStill I hope her future beyond the ending doesn t include continuing her companion duties for that awfulpitiable lady minus a salary now
