A lot of effort was put into making the police investigation feel genuine Add to that the keen eye of a reporter and the military experience of a former marine who both carry out investigations of their own and you get a smart riveting story It involves multiple storylines that focus on a murder and eventually converge to discover the whole truth in a Mexican standoffIt s beautiful to see the pacing on the three lines of investigation Some inuiries lead to nothing until a big break comes along The police seem to always be a step behind because of procedure but they catch up in the endMitchell Rafferty a reporter returns home only to be attacked by a masked man who broke into his house After beating up Mitch he steals Nicole s laptop apparently his main goal The bad news keeps coming for Mitch when detectives Abby and Dewey tell him that his wife Nicole was found dead after presumably being thrown off a building Mitch doesn t know she was cheating on him with Boone a man sporting the same tattoo as the thief but his investigation into the matter will reveal all sorts of unpleasantnessview spoilerA message left by Boone on Nicole s phone makes him a suspect Doubly so when he runs away from police He begins his own investigation into Nicole s murder by getting hired to an Emerson office where he saw a couple of ex Marines enter He soon gets to the guy that killed NicoleMitch gets his first big reveal from Ted Caulfied Emerson is going to release an unsafe product for the public Nicole had proof that she wanted to make public but was killed before she got to They get interrupted by an armed man with the same tattoo as the thief that broke into Mitch s house Mitch is the only survivorDewey Mitch Boone and the ex Marine that killed Nicole follow each other on the roof Dewey kills the ex Marine revealing himself to be on Emerson s payroll His partner Abby shows up moments later and everybody is suddenly pointing guns at each other She is soon convinced that Dewey isn t on her side Dewey tries to shoot himself but is stopped His testimony finally brings everything to light hide spoiler

    Jay Faerber did his usual solid job with the storytelling; he also writes some impressive cliffhangers between issues While the story itself was a kind of pastiche of Gold Medal's crime novels of the sixties give or take a decade the story is probably set in the 21st century eg Google is referenced The clothing is the type
