For those who appreciate localized history Ann had added uality information to the stories of American evangelical Christianity and Christian publishing This brief synopsis of Baker Book House includes wonderful vignettes of those who own the publishing company and retailer those who have worked there and those whose lives were positively affected by itThe book is not a long one and a uick read It was written for the 75th anniversary of the company begun by Herman Baker and for my pleasure it could have had stories and details There are occasional overlaps with other events and people that made me wish they would have been fleshed out and developed further For example how did a Reformed used book company become a favorite of a Oneness Pentecostal minister and how did he become one of their favorites that he had his own key On a personal note I confess disappointment to the only mention of Riverside Book Bible House and World Bible Publishers was the anonymous identification of a distributor In the context the information is inaccurate and in contrast to Spring Arbor being mentioned by name it seemed almost a slight Earle Fitz founder of Riverside was every much a contemporary of Herman Baker and his influence on the industry was eually as profound as Jim Carlson s the founder of Spring Arbor Reasons for the lack of particular mention can only be speculated and as I said the disappointment is personal because of my own eleven years with RiversideWorldAside from that however the book is a worthwhile addition to the reading list of any interested in the publishing industry in general the Christian publishing industry or evangelical American Christianity
